Jim Jordan Threatens to Dissolve America's Democracy
Right-wingers are eating their own to push America into fascism
When I was 6, I accidentally put sugar in my father’s coffee. When he spat out the super-sweet concoction, I confidently suggested we get a spoon and take the sugar out. After a small burst of profanities, he responded, “Good luck finding it.”
The sugar was, of course, dissolved, but the sickly sweet flavor remained. That was a science lesson I had yet to get to in first grade. My failure to understand the chemical interplay between a hot liquid and sugar reminds me of what is happening in Congress today with the centrists in the Republican Party. With their influence and power in question, the alt-rights’ hot threats of payback if members don’t vote for Jim Jordan threaten to dissolve the last bits of power that could hold back the onset of a fascist takeover of the House of Representatives. The sick bitterness of their years of silence is surely causing many reflux.
Backed by Donald Trump, Jim Jordan, the alt-right-winger from Ohio, is, and I am being as fair as I can be here, not a smart man. He epitomizes our nation’s implosion into extreme and low-grade mediocrity: If Jim Jordan is considered a leader, our nation is doomed. I wouldn’t let him change my oil let alone run the House.
His allies on what used to be the fringe fascist right realize that this is a one-of-a-kind historical moment. If they succeed in herding the weak-willed center of the party into voting for Jordan, then the dank, mold-filled basement will hardly be the limit to their treachery.
The most alarming part of Jordan’s rise to power and threat to taking over the speakership of the House is that Donald Trump has his hand up his ass. Jordan is Trump’s dummy, perched up on the orange blob’s lap. Poked and prodded from time to time by the mentally ill ex-president and organized crime boss, if Jordan is elected the Speaker of the House, the chaos that now defines the Republican Party will spread to the entirety of the U.S. government.
President Biden’s first term will unofficially end, and the world will become more dangerous and unstable — precisely when our leadership and know-how are most needed.
There still might be some hope that the vanishing center in the Republican Party can dust off the history books and recall the pledge they gave to protect the Constitution. As politically expedient, however, as the vast majority of the Republicans have been since 2008, always willing to put the nation’s best interests second to their interests of being re-elected, I really wouldn’t bet more than a stick of gum that they will do the right thing and help hold back this unfortunate moment.
The following week will be historic for the nation and the world. Unfortunately, since 2016, each time history and the Republicans are involved, it is never a good thing for the country or the world. It’s always a shitshow and weakens our nation and destabilizes the world.
Please keep telling it like it is. It's prodding me to action
