Let the Record Speak for Itself: A Day-by-Day Recounting of the Worst Presidency in Our History
January 15th, 2017: 6 days before Trump took the oath (the one he didn't really mean)
As much as we would have liked to believe that the Trump presidency was an SNL skit, regrettably, it wasn’t. Somehow, Trump managed to win the presidency, waking the racist, Jesus-obsessed, immigrant-hating, Foxified family from down the street. Suddenly, we found ourselves on a four-year boat ride reminiscent of the one the visitors to Mr. Wonka’s chocolate factory took.
“There’s no earthly way of knowing
Which direction they are going!
There’s no knowing where they’re rowing,
Or which way the river’s flowing!
Not a speck of light is showing,
So the danger must be growing,
For the rowers keep on rowing,
And they’re certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing… (Boat Scene).”
Trump was leading us in the freaky-assed tunnel, and no one knew where it would take us. Nonetheless, there were a lot of warning signs that nothing could be good and even less would ever again be the same. The naive predictions by Americans concerned solely with their portfolios were that “It’s only four years. If he’s that bad, he will be voted out,” proved then and now to be cries to be so lacking in any understanding of history that the question should have been posed: Are our schools completely useless when it comes to teaching history?
Given the reception that Trump received by a substantial minority of our country, the short answer, and only answer, is yes.
As I have already written, the Biden re-election team does not need genius, creative, or mind-blowing slogans to win this next election. It merely needs to remind Americans just how out-of-control Trump’s four years were. All of us, even the most ardent Trump supporters, were physically and mentally exhausted from the non-stop tweeting and raging from the orange menace. Two years in, many of those who voted for Trump were asking the question many of us ask when vomiting the next morning after a wild night: “Why did you do that last shot of Gold Schlager, dummy?” Why did I vote for this orange disease?
In the absence of a proactive and strong message by the Biden people showing why it is necessary to deny Trump a second chance, between now and election day, I will post one article a day reminding my corner of the world of the nightmare (the crimes) that was Trump.
D-Day minus 6 (January 15, 2017)
While many presidents-elect (and much smarter ones) are focused on picking the best people for the job, building bridges to members of the opposing party to ensure a smoother transition, and learning about the responsibilities of their new job — arguably the hardest in the world — Donald Trump was busy attacking one of the most respected men in Congress — he was Black which actually made it okay for Trump’s base — finding reasons to be offended and trashing Saturday Night Live.

On a lighter note, when he wasn’t tweeting, he was also busy trashing NATO, which obviously made Putin smile.
In comments that are likely to create fresh tensions with the United States’ closest European allies, President-elect Donald J. Trump described NATO as “obsolete” in an interview published on Sunday and said other European nations would probably follow Britain’s lead by leaving the European Union.
“I took such heat when I said NATO was obsolete,” Mr. Trump said. “It’s obsolete because it wasn’t taking care of terror. I took a lot of heat for two days. And then they started saying, ‘Trump is right (Trump Criticizes NATO).’”
Tomorrow, we will look at January 21st, 2017.
Let the record speak for itself, folks. Are you ready for four more years of this lunacy?
