Today is T-Day. Not turkey for Thanksgiving, but T for Trump. We barely survived the first four years (even though many didn’t, thanks to his mismanagement of COVID), and now the country wilfully heads down the orange brick road again. Rehashing why the government has chosen this fate is no longer a concern. What each of us, non-cultists and patriots, must do going forward is to find ways to resist the chaos.
As we have seen, Donald Trump has no plans to help Americans who chose him for a second term because eggs were expensive. Remember, they used to complain about gas prices, but they have already dropped significantly. Then, they focused on the flow of migrants across the southern border, which was a lot and in part caused by the weakness of modern liberalism. Despite Trump preventing Congress from stemming the flow, Biden acted, and the unbridled flow stopped. That leaves us with eggs. I was home in November, and eggs were indeed expensive. Who would have thought that slow-producing chickens and October 7th, 2023, would have the power to erase the memories of Americans?
But here we are.
Donald Trump will sign a bunch of executive orders today that will have little or no bearing on improving the lives of his core constituency. Nonetheless, because they are members of a cult, they will all sleep more fitfully tonight, saying silly shit like, “Ah, finally, America is getting great again. Already great.” What they won’t ever realize, because all of their news sources are Kremlin-style propaganda outlets, is that the changes that will occur will make all of their lives worse. Donald Trump’s intentions are not to strengthen the country but to enrich himself, his family, and all those loyal to him. The average “Joe” and “Jane” will experience no positive gains from anything Donald Trump will — and most likely won’t — do.
Trump’s threats against a faithful ally, Denmark, symbolize what the next four years has in store for us. The world is closer to a major world war today than it has been in decades, thanks to the invasion of Ukraine by Trump’s pal, Vladimir Putin. Creating instability and chaos by threatening not Putin and our enemies but a NATO ally demonstrates how unserious Trump is about everything he “promised” to his cultists before the election.
Our allies in Europe are preparing for the chaos. German newspapers are shouting about “the disruption for no other reason than just to draw attention to himself.” John Bolton said in an interview recently that Trump loves being president not because he can help people or make America safer but because every hour of every day, the world is focused on his every utterance. He descends from the residence in the White House with one goal: How to make the day about him and make him look like a winner and others weak. He does not enter the Oval Office prepared for anything other than the marketing and promotion of Donald Trump, astrong leader.
Once the cult fell for his lies and re-elected him, Trump was no longer obliged to even pay lip service to his promises. It was as if he had burped and let out some rancid air. He waved his hand, and the smell dissipated. He moved on to the next hair-brained idea to make him look strong and unpredictable, which he thought was a good thing. Mexico pushed back and made him look stupid, so he turned his attention to Canada. Canada also pushed back.
The Danes are generally a bit more reserved, and their politeness is not serving them well right now. They need to tell Trump to eff off and take their chances with his threats, which he will unlikely follow through on because bullies always back down.
Beginning in a few hours, the government will stop working for us and become an instrument to enrich and empower the Trump family. There is nothing we can do to prevent this, but we can slow it down in ways not yet obvious. As I said, resistance to him and all things Trump is possible. There are just as many of us against him as those for him. We are more intelligent, although there are many stupid on our team also — like the ones who didn’t vote because of Gaza.
Trump will spend his every waking moment wrecking the institutions that once made our country great. His goal is maximum disruption, which means complete chaos. The chaos, Trump knows, will make it look like only he can save the nation. Many of us will become enemies first to him and then to the country because he will lash out at us as he fails and flounders. We must be prepared to resist and maybe even go to jail, but we must be ready if we genuinely love our nation.
Resistance should remain peaceful, though, because violence will only make things more chaotic, and that makes him more powerful.
