Moscow Kills 50 Civilians with Ballistic Missiles
Ukraine sends in drones to hit refineries, and Russians crave vengeance.
Vladimir Putin killed a 46-year-old Russian woman last night when a Ukrainian drone hit her apartment. Most Russians will blame Ukraine, but the truth is evident to most. Putin is a killer. Putin’s weapons of choice when murdering his people, however, are drones. Like mosquitoes, drones annoyingly buzz about a bit and then take bites. Sure, they can kill, but they aren’t ballistic missiles.
This is a building in Ukraine that last week was blown up not by a mosquito-drone but by a ballistic missile. 50 civilians were killed, and the building was devastated.
This is an apartment building in January in Ukraine. This building was also hit by a Russian ballistic missile.
Is not enough enough? Should we not be demanding that the world unite to end Russian terrorism? It is a rogue state without respect for international norms or laws. Our economic sanctions have proven to be a joke. I wrote about it two years ago and explained that Russians are amazingly creative at finding ways around rules and laws passed to limit their freedom. It is called “Smekalka,” and while a highly complex mix of emotions, traditions, cowardice, and immorality, smekalka is the ability to use creativity to overcome, in this case, economic sanctions and to then use those sanctions against the people who implemented them. Russia has, for the most part, thrived with the sanctions in place and has managed to pick apart our defense against their crimes against humanity to — at a great cost to itself — destroy Ukraine.
The time came long ago, but after hearing how Russians are reacting to the Ukrainian incursion into the Kursk region, I feel the world has to accept that we are at war with Russia. Putin’s rhetoric that the Russian army was not struggling with just the Ukrainian military but with all of NATO, in a sense, becomes true. In a sense, we are playing into his hands, but, to be honest, I no longer care. The time has come when Russia needs to suffer for its crimes.
Russian people blissfully free themselves from responsibility for the murders of Ukrainian civilians by saying stuff like, “I don’t follow politics.” I have many close friends and people I love who still reside in Russia and use this defense. They tell me that if they speak up, they will go to jail. One, whose daughter just turned one, tells me this. I agree with her. She is also sickened by the war and hates Putin, but there is nothing she can do.
Then, there are the ones who are actively supporting the war and calling for more violence against Ukraine. They also call for war with the West. Well, let’s give them that war. The fear of a nuclear confrontation has held us back, and it should. Nonetheless, until Vladimir Putin is rotting in a hole in the ground, this nightmare does not end.
Well. There is a way it ends, but Ukraine must bend over for Putin. If Donald Trump wins the presidency, he will cut Ukraine off, and in short order, the war of attrition will be won by the Kremlin.
Do we really want to live in a world order where Donald Trump has ended Democracy in the U.S. and Vladimir Putin is triumphant in Moscow and Kyiv?
Given Ukraine everything it needs to defeat Russia and more if necessary. Enough of the drones!
Lord, give Ukraine the tools to defeat this Russian evil. Amen
