Part One: What a Trump Presidency Means for Americans Opposed to Him
If not liking him has led to promises of 'retribution,' what will an attempted murder lead him to do to us?
KHANNNN!
Remember Captain Kirk’s scream, which defied physics and echoed throughout space and time? If you don’t, it’s okay. It was an “ikhanic” scene, as Trekkies like to say, and with the growing likelihood — unless we stop him! — of a second Trump presidency on the rise, I think it could be helpful to discuss what this could mean for “the rest of us,” the non-cultists who truly think (know) that he was the worst president in our history and will end our democracy.
TRUMMMP!
The bad boy, the ultimate outsider, is now the quintessential insider. The Republican Party is no more, and as I wrote yesterday, it is the Trump Party, plain and simple. Nothing Trump or the Republicans-now-turned-MAGA is offering is good for our country. 36,000 MAGA the other day liked and shared a post from one cult member that said, “I want a dictatorship, and Trump is my choice.” It was viewed seven million times. Donald Trump’s party will end our democracy under the guise of saving it.
This historical narrative is well-known, and we know how that turned out. While the Allies eventually destroyed Nazi Germany under Hitler, such a turn of events does not seem likely to happen in the immediate future with the U.S. A fascist American will be accepted by Russia and regarded as an ally. Just today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov issued a statement praising Trump’s vice presidential candidate. Vance has said he doesn’t care what happens to Ukraine and thinks the U.S. should not be wasting its time or money helping it.
The danger of a Trump victory is something those of us out here expressing daily hatred of the convicted felon and pedophile would have to worry about. Having lived in Russia for 28 years, I saw how the government Russians who openly expressed dissatisfaction with the government were systematically removed from society. It began slowly. It usually starts with some excuse about unpaid taxes or some other financial fraud.
First, investigative journalists end up shot in the stairwells of their apartment buildings, and the government suggests that a radical element committed the atrocity. Because the police crack the case so quickly, suspicion is raised, almost as if the killers had been patsies. The killers are arrested and locked away, and the government suggests that tensions need to cool on all sides. Less informed citizens agree that maybe the journalist had been too aggressive and so was partially guilty of her death.
More journalists are killed. Then, the arrests commence. The media eventually succumbs to the pressures of the government, and opposition voices are extracted from the normal discourse of life and shoved into the margins. Questioning the official line becomes dangerous for people, but the status quo finds it impolite and traitorous even because the narrative has changed. Those citizens against the official line — Trump’s MAGA — will find themselves professionally and legally isolated.
Russians never had the courts on their side, and their Constitution is a joke. Donald Trump has worked tirelessly to subvert our Constitution. The rights guaranteed in it will only benefit those who back MAGA. The rest of us will be denied our right to express our true feelings because Trump’s government will regard our criticisms as treasonous. MAGA police will stop us for Biden/Harris bumper stickers. Employers will be harassed by the IRS, fire inspectors, the police, and the health department for tolerating anti-MAGA traitors. Anyone not abiding by the MAGA social rules will be sooner or later pushed out of legal society and forced to exist in the shadows.
Many Americans will tire of living under that pressure, with the fear of being outed as a non-MAGA person, and most will accept the new order. The schools will also be teaching the new order; if they reject it, they will be closed. All of this seems farfetched, right? I repeat it. I lived in Russia from 1994 to 2022. I watched it all happen. I watched as people were at first “against,” then “quiet,” and then “for.” It happens fast, and once it reaches a certain percentage of the population, it careens rapidly downhill until most are aligned with the new order.
Trump has half of Congress on his side and is willing to do anything he says. He has SCOTUS and scores of judges willing to ignore the Constitution and legal precedent, all to fulfill his wishes. Even though Trump was out of government, he has been a dictator in many ways. He crushed politicians who bucked his demands during his exile in Mar-a-Lago, and he openly terrorized judges and jurors, reminding most judges he appointed that they needed to fall in line. Most alarmingly, the majority of SCOTUS is in Trump’s pocket.
Laws will be passed to silence us. Medium will be forced to censor us or suffer. If you think that Donald Trump is not going to spend his first years in a second administration, making everyone who mocked him pay, then you don’t understand Donald Trump.
The deep state, the one that never existed but that has MAGidiots frothing at the mouth, is being constructed piece by piece, and its blueprint is Project 25. Project 25 can only succeed if we are silenced.
So what is it?
Vote Blue in November!
