Poor, Poor Donald Trump
All the suffering that has happened over the millennia was just a preview of his saga
Somehow, I missed it. After the death of Alexey Navalny, though, and thanks to Donald Trump’s accurate assessment, Navalny’s murder— Jesus’s crucifixion, the persecution of Jews, Blacks in America, etc. — is all just kind of white noise compared to what is going on with poor little Donald.
Alexey Navalny died a political martyr after returning home to confront Russian President Vladimir Putin’s brutal rule. But that’s not stopping Donald Trump from coopting his heroic legacy to suggest false equivalence with his own legal troubles.
“It’s happening in our country too. We are turning into a Communist country in many ways. And if you look at it, I’m the leading candidate, I got indicted. … I got indicted four times. I have eight or nine trials … all because of the facts that I’m in politics,” Trump, the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination, said in the Fox News event. Later, when referring to a $355 million civil fraud judgment against him last week, he added that “it is a form of Navalny, it is a form of communism or fascism (Trump Co-opts Navalny’s Legacy).”
Trump really hit the nail on the head with this comparison. The only glaring weak spot here is that he failed to again accuse Putin of any wrongdoing. I mean, this was a fruit hanging so low that a toddler could have picked it, but the Donald instead booted it out of his way and into the other lane at the orchard of ridiculous comments.
In case anyone is not paying attention, I am being sarcastic. The other day, I had a reader truly believe that I was in full agreement with MAGidiots concerning the immigration problem. Obviously, there is no equivalence here between Trump’s legal problems — he is a serial lawbreaker, and he is now paying for his crimes — and the repression of Alexey Navalny. Navalny, whether you agree with his decision to return to Russia or not — I don’t because it was a guaranteed death sentence — has selflessly fought to free his country from tyranny. Trump has selfishly fought to destroy American democracy and turn the nation into a dictatorship.
Navalny did what he did for his love of his nation and his fellow citizens. Trump does what he does for his own enrichment and his love for himself.
“The only comment [Trump is] going to make about Navalny is not hitting Putin for murdering him, not praising Navalny for fighting the corruption that was happening in Russia, but instead he’s going to compare himself to Navalny and the victim that he is in his court cases?” Haley said in a Fox News interview Tuesday. “He is so distracted, he is so focused on himself, and America can’t go through this (Trump Compares Death of Putin Critic).”
Trump’s disgusting rhetoric does not end with Trump. Of course, his insane followers will also begin using this whacked-out logic to pity the criminal ex-president. The father of insanity and arguably the man whose anti-democratic ways paved the way for Trumpism, Newt Gingrich had this to say.
“Watch the Biden Administration speak out against Putin and his jailing of his leading political opponent while Democrats in four different jurisdictions try to turn President Trump into an American Navalny,” former House speaker Newt Gingrich said Friday on X, formerly Twitter. “The hypocrisy and corruption of the left is astonishing (Trump Compares Death of Putin Critic).”
It is sobering when you hear such comments coming from people like Gingrich, a man who clearly understands the nation’s history and gets what our system is about. As ridiculous and clownish as Newt was back when he was waging war on the Clintons, he was nevertheless also hemmed in by the nation’s traditions a bit. If he went too far, the system and his colleagues in Congress would slap him down — this is why he eventually lost his speakership and was ultimately run out of Congress.
In America 2024, a dictator like Putin can kill an innocent man, and an ex-president can be okay with that — even compare that death with his own criminal trials while many others in his Party support him.
And collectively refuse to criticize that killer today destroying Ukraine and Russia.
