We’ll take it, Vlad. Putin was recently in a hospital in Moscow, lying to wounded Russian soldiers about how the U.S. has “blood on its hands” because it is helping Ukraine defend itself from his war of genocide. If the U.S. has blood on its hands, then Putin is like Sissy Spacek after the bucket of blood was dropped on her at the prom in the classic Rosemary’s Baby.
Putin and all Russians need a reality check as we enter 2024. While Russia does, of course, have one of the world’s largest stockpiles of nuclear missiles, as we have seen by their performance in this war with Ukraine, there is no guarantee that they would be capable of launching them before the entire West and Asia hit every military target of its deems necessary.
Please don’t get me wrong, I write this with all of the seriousness that a keyboard permits, I don’t want there ever to be a military clash between the U.S. and Russia. There is just no reason for such a nightmare to happen. Putin, of course, counts on us being rational because he knows he is not. He expects that the United States and our allies will always pull back for fear that the hibernating bear could be roused and awaken up cranky, hungry, and looking for revenge. This is how many Russians see themselves in this war, which has proven to most sane observers in the world that Russia’s military is like a three-ring circus.
Sometimes, though, you get sick of listening to the bluster. Sometimes, you get sick and tired of hearing loud-mouthed cowards hiding behind the expectation that the West will always do the right thing. If Putin wants the United States and NATO to be his BEF — Best Enemy Forever — then why shouldn’t we accommodate him with that wish? As we eloquently say in New Jersey: F*** it, tough guy. You want it, you got it.”
Putin suggested during a New Year’s Day visit with injured Russian troops in Moscow that the U.S. and its allies have blood on their hands for whatever Russian casualties have occurred during the so-called “special military operation.”
In response to a question about “Western countries helping our enemy,” Putin argued that the West was working in opposition to “the existence of Russia” and should be viewed as Moscow’s true “enemy (Putin Issues Ominous New Threat).”
The Kremlin has no understanding of what would be in store for them. All of the resources of the Western militaries joined together and worked tirelessly to defeat Russia — it could be done without even firing a bullet or warming up any missiles. I have a feeling, though, that there are a lot of corrupt officers in the military who know that if they were ever to be on the same battlefield with NATO forces, they would not have a prayer in hell of coming out victorious.
Honestly, I don’t care what kind of leader Russia has. I tolerated the Russia’s horseshit for nearly 30 years. As I have said, when you live in Russia, you are genuinely deaf and dumb to the country’s crimes. So much is drowned out by lies and propaganda, and so much effort goes into making everything seem completely normal and overblown that it is hard to get worked up about.
After the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014, I decided that if there were ever to be an all-out war with Ukraine, then I would leave Russia. When the war started, it just so happened that we had vacation plans, and after two years of COVID, we wanted to visit Austria for snow and mountains. After leaving, it suddenly became nearly impossible to get back and very expensive. We stayed, and with each passing week, as we watched the horrors being committed by Russia’s “eternal heroes,” we decided that we would not return.
I used to have a lot of hope for Russia. Looking back, I feel silly, naive, even stupid. My former belief that Russia was destined for great things leaves me embarrassed. As much as I still love St. Peterburg and miss this amazing city, I no longer care about Russia’s future leaders. If they are too stupid to understand that Putin is their true enemy, then that’s their problem. It’s their country, and so let them have their Putin.
But I will not, and cannot, tolerate them forcing others to accept their disease. So long as Russia continues to genocide Ukraine, let’s take off the gloves and accept Putin’s offer: Okay, we are your BEF, Vlad.
“Now go f*** yourself,” as my mom used to say.
Niki is just like everybody who wants it both ways. And get votes from both sides.
Wrong movie. Mia Farrow. No blood
