Putin Plays a Cat and Mouse Game with Navalny's Corpse
If the Russians don't finally take offense at this Stalinistic terror against their fellow citizens, then they deserve all the repression Putin's system can serve up.
The woman dressed in layers of black clothing is the mother of Alexey Navalny. She is dressed in black because she is mourning. She is wearing multiple layers to protect herself from the bitter cold, which most likely was one of the main reasons her son succumbed to the tortuous conditions of his imprisonment. Her name is Lyudmila Navalnaya.
She has a simple message: Vladimir Putin, only you can command them to give me the body of my deceased son so I can bury him humanly and properly. For those of you who don’t speak Russian, the fact that she referred to him by his first and last name, avoiding his patronymic, expresses her disgust for her son’s sadistic killer.
Ms. Navalnaya is strong enough, despite her sorrow, to at least use the name of her son’s killer. Putin, the superstitious coward that he is, never says Alexey’s name. It’s like a child preferring not to say the name of a monster in a dark room for fear that the monster will come surging forward out of the deep shadows.
The big hero Russian men — at least according to them and all of the bullshit myths revolving around Russia’s army — are childishly playing games with Alexey’s mother. It’s not bad enough that they killed him, but now they are mocking him and his loved ones in death. They told her she could collect her son’s body, so she took the hard, long journey to one of the worst places on Earth. Upon arriving, they suddenly started doing what Russia does better than every other country in the world: They began to f*** with her solely because they could.
There is no reason not to hand his body over to his mother, although they will make a bunch up, but everyone knows that each one is a steaming crock. Eventually, Putin will chime in that he knew nothing about the reasons for the delays, but clearly, the prison authorities had their reasons. Putin’s apologists will accept this version: Vladimir Vladimirovich had no idea why the body was being held. He can’t know everything.
Putin gave the command to mess with the mother because he is a cruel animal who deserves more than most on this planet to rot in the same kind of cell Navalny died in.
But he will never know that fate because millions of dummy Russians will protect him. There are millions of shitheads now happily ending their lives in Putin’s war of genocide, so they will never find fault with their dear leader. They so love him that they can’t find it in their hearts to think that maybe he sent them to die on purpose. He protects them, after all. Putin has made Russia great, remember?
They will accept every degradation and be happy because the Russian people are a beaten-down horde whose collective mentality is that of newly freed slaves. Individualism is frowned upon in nearly every walk of life, and even when they reside in other countries, they struggle to be just free and independent. Many — not all! — need to lose themselves in hordes of fellow Russians because it is only in the vibe of the Russified crowd that they feel alive — alone, they are lost, drowning. Lost in the collective mind of other Russians, they are safe to hide behind hopelessness. It’s okay to have no aspirations in that crowd.
Putin gets this and that is why he is so viciously messing with Navalny’s mom — because he can and he knows that no Russia will speak up in her behalf. They will watch her suffering, thank God it’s not them, and shout, “Way to go, Vladimir Vladimirovich! Hail Russia!”
Your commentary on Russian mentality and everyday life is critical to anyone interested in that global area and conflict. After reading you for years I find your unique experience, loves and hates really illuminate the region for us western dodos. I have experienced Eastern Europeans for the last 30 yrs through the Orthodox Church in America. Lots of old White Russians, Romanians and Polish peoples of incredible depth of character and intelligence. Keep it up!
