Reality Check: The Super Bowl is a Biden Administration Psyop
Right-wing media has added a new flavor of crazy syrup for its never-ending breakfast in America
If you thought the Kansas City Chiefs actually played well enough to overcome their opponents, thus landing them in the Super Bowl, then I have a bridge for sale that might interest you — it joins Brooklyn to Manhattan.
Oh, and that white-hot love affair between Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift we see unfolding weekly on our multi-billion pixel screens? Fake. They hardly even know each other. You see, the Biden administration found itself with a lot of free “executive time” on its hands and, ever fearful that the stink of Jimmy Carter’s presidency would drag it down, made a pact with the “unwatchable” National Football League to get one of America’s most famous pop stars to “fall in love” with a popular, football all-star, Travis Kelce.
With the Kansas City Chiefs headed to Super Bowl LVIII, influential MAGA Media personalities have started circulating conspiracy theories about the pop superstar, promoting the deranged notion that she is part of a sprawling psychological operations plot staged by the NFL and Democratic Party to deliver the 2024 presidential election to President Joe Biden.
“I wonder who’s going to win the Super Bowl next month,” Vivek Ramaswamy, the unsuccessful 2024 presidential candidate who has spread conspiracy theories about the January 6 insurrection and the legitimacy of the 2020 election, posted Monday on X. “And I wonder if there’s a major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall. Just some wild speculation over here, let’s see how it ages over the next 8 months (Right-wing Media Figures Target Taylor Swift).”
Take in this crazy for a moment. The people professing this stuff to be alleged truths are adult Americans who went through schools similar to the ones that many of us did. These people are out there among us. They teach our children. They check the harnesses on rollercoasters at amusement parks. They greet us Sam’s, and many fill the churches on Sundays. Even more frightening is that many of the “good folks” who buy into this crazy are in positions of power over people who don’t buy in.
Taylor Swift has been a pop icon for a generation. Travis Kelce is one of the best tight ends in professional football, playing on a team that has in a mere six years become a dynasty with one of the best young quarterbacks ever to play the game. What could be unbelievable about these two healthy, attractive celebrities falling in love?
Right-wing media’s biggest problem with this new power couple comes down to the color white. Swift and Kelce are two 34-year-old white kids, one from Pennsylvania and the other from Ohio — swing states — whose unconcealed dislike for Donald Trump undermines the right’s not-so-hidden declaration that wholesome white people choose Trump because he’s got their backs.
While little is known of Kelce’s political views, he was on record in 2020 about being enthusiastic about visiting the White House after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. However, since he started dating Swift, the two made a Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine commercial. The little bit of mind left in the MAGidiots, most of whom are anti-vax and regard the vaccine as the government’s way of “implanting chips” into people, exploded last Fall when the commercial came out.
With each win by the Chiefs and each post-game kiss, the tour of the latest rabbit hole became more detailed and time-consuming. No longer was it just a morning jaunt ashore to check out a popular souvenir market for the cruise ship passengers; it had become a full day’s event.
The fulminations surrounding the world’s biggest pop icon — and girlfriend of Travis Kelce, the Chiefs’ star tight end — reached the stratosphere after Kansas City made it to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in five years, and the first time since Ms. Swift joined the team’s entourage (MAGA Meltdown).
It’s hard to believe that this relationship has become the conspiracy it has, but when you think about it, this is potentially a great danger for the right. Two popular white Christians don’t support all of the lunacy that makes Trump and his MAGA movement what it is. They are offering a less vitriolic and even sounder vision for the future. Their pleasant smiles and nice personalities showcase a commonsense approach to how the country could be without the endless and blaring alarm bells ringing on the right about the end of the world and nutty-assed conspiracies.
Swift’s support for Biden can cross generations and reach millions of “Swifty’s,” and each time Biden gets one of these votes of confidence from sane, good people, the truth about the wizard of MAGA becomes glaringly more obvious — and less appealing.
Fox, being the ridiculous if not clownish right-wing propaganda channel, has to attack Swift because she represents everything they don’t. Fox makes its money from feeding not-so-bright people; many made this way thanks to Fox (Foxified) lies and propaganda. No one behind the scenes at Fox believes anything about this conspiracy, but the money people over there love it.
The Fake-Swift-Kelce-Love-NFL-for-Biden Affair is guaranteed to rake in the advertising dollars for them, and there is nothing wrong with that. America? Democracy? These are just two of the many suckers Fox dupes daily to keep its shareholders happy.
