No, this is not the latest sighting of Nessie in the Scottish loch. This image was captured the other day. That, folks, is the next Speaker of the House taking a dip while on vacation in the same lake where Nessie is believed to reside.
No one knows the name of the relatively large figure kicking back for a leisurely swim, but soon enough, we will find it. It seems that this person, who I think is, in fact, the Loch Ness monster, and the Haitian cleaning lady who keeps passing by the open doors and waving during the live televised votes are the two candidates who now have the best chance of taking over the House.
America has never seen such a spectacle, folks. But as my Trumpist brother said recently after I blamed right-wing media and Trump for the hate that led to the brutal murder of that sweet six-year-old boy, “You libtards are obsessed with Trump. You think he’s guilty of everything.” Well, yes, and so I say it again. The shitshow in the House of Representatives would never have happened without Donald Trump in our political lives.
The lunacy taking place is par for the Trump golf course — which, for Trump, is any number he says it is — and only in an America trying to pick up the pieces after those four nightmarish years and then the three since his attempt to overturn an election on January 6th, could something like what we are seeing take place.
Since Hillary Clinton lost that election, the whole has seen what happens when America has a power vacuum. With each unfolding catastrophe in the world, we see what happens when the institutions that formerly kept our democracy safe and secure become targeted by the president of the United States. Trump’s sole purpose was to wreck our institutions, poison our democracy, and then become America’s first autocrat.
The Republican Party, except for a handful, went missing in action during the Trump years. Many remained lost even after Trump committed a crime against our country that no president or politician had ever done in our 244 years: January 6th. They were quiet, and when given the chance to speak up on the record, they forgave him.
Kevin McCarthy, the ousted speaker, had this to say:
He was not referring to Trump’s coup attempt of January 6th but the current chaos in the House.
Many Americans love to blame Democrats for all of the ills in this nation, but whether you agree with them or not, one thing that we can say is the Democrats are always willing to govern; they are always ready to make a compromise. Republicans blame the Democrats for pushing their policies when they are in the majority and accuse them of being partisan — of course, they are pushing their policies; what the hell else are they going to do?
In the House, Republicans are casting about for a new leader, mired in an internecine battle marked by screaming, cursing and a fresh flood of candidates. In the Senate, their party is led by Senator Mitch McConnell, who spent weeks arguing that he remained physically and mentally fit enough for the position after freezing midsentence in two public appearances. And on the 2024 campaign trail, the dominant front-runner, Donald J. Trump, faces 91 felony charges across four cases, creating a drumbeat of legal news that often overwhelms any of his party’s political messages (Republicans Grapple with Being Speakerless).
This is the party of Donald Trump. He is a cancer that attaches itself to healthy bodies and sucks them dry of energy and, eventually, life, but he always gets stronger. He always ensures that little Donnie, the misfit from Queens, survives while everyone and everything around him suffers and collapses.
The Republican losers who fell in love with Trump when he was on “The Apprentice” are now finding out what many people from New York and New Jersey have known for decades: Trump is a petty crook, a loser, and a fast-talking punk from the city. He’s the kid everyone should have smacked in the mouth every time he let one of his smart-ass cracks fly, but Daddy’s money protected him.
Many in America still can’t see what a bad-luck loser Trump is and how his self-obsessed energy affected our country and the world — how many wars are raging now thanks to a world made weaker by Trumpism?
Some in the Republican Party, though, are waking up and realizing that none of this lunacy could have happened in a world free of Donald Trump. One question now needs to be asked: Will these idiots finally begin to leave him behind?
I really doubt it.
Among the powerful drivers of political behavior of the masses is uncertainty, first cousin to fear. Uncertainty shows its teeth in the regulated financial markets in which our society stores and gambles its wealth outside of unregulated real estate. Through the magic of 21st Century television and social media, Trump has transformed our society into a vulgar participatory reality show. My lonely voice has been admonishing people to break free from television, especially tv news and advertisements. The most efficient means to pulling that off is to first, turn off the televisions, second, go about your day without it, and three, repeat the next day. Try for one whole week and see how you feel and what you reach for get over media addictions. Substitute with meaningful opportunities to enjoy reading, listening, experiencing positive activities involving others. Just abandon television to feel better. Vote “NO” on cable television by canceling everything. These monstrosity entertainment/advertising conglomerates are unstable and unreliable means to pacify a large population with too much leisure time on its hands. Save your money for your future, instead.
