Trump Is Changing the Laws to Protect His Political Allies
Putin did the same thing, and now, if a child draws an anti-war picture in school, the parent can be arrested.
Donald Trump regards the behavior of the January 6th traitors as patriotism at its finest. Right-wingers have for decades accepted the bombing of abortion clinics also as acceptable forms of protest, albeit a “little on the violent side.” Smashing the windows of a Ford dealership or vandalizing some Chevy trucks are both crimes that can get anyone imprisoned. The length of time depends on the damage done and the individual’s record.
If an American protests against Donald Trump and the actions of Elon Musk and targets Tesla, Musk’s company, then the vandalism will be escalated to a charge of domestic terrorism. I scoured the internet to find out how many years such an increased charge could add to the sentencing, but I could not find an answer. There was enough language, though, to indicate that a substantial number of years will be added to the charge.
So, imagine going out and breaking the windshield on a Tesla at a car dealership. You might have just bought yourself a room and three square meals daily in a federal prison for the next 12 years. Domestic terrorism is on the rise in the United States, and 2020, Trump’s last year in office, had the greatest amount of incidents in U.S. history -101, 83 of which were considered far-right. The overwhelming majority of the 267 incidents ince 2015 have been committed by white supremacist groups. Donald Trump thinks these people are part of the “good people on both sides.”
Victims of all incidents in recent years represent a broad cross-section of American society, including Blacks, Jews, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, Asians and other people of color who have been attacked by right-wing extremists wielding vehicles, guns, knives and fists.
Dozens of religious institutions — including mosques, synagogues and Black churches — as well as abortion clinics and government buildings, have been threatened, burned, bombed and hit with gunfire over the past six years (The Rise of Domestic Extremism).
Right-wingers have long used boycotts and protests of companies to express their racist and Christo-fascist views. There were violent protests against Bud Lite when it featured a trans woman in an ad. The right was completely supportive, and par for course, never do they condemn acts of violence in any form. Many Republicans remained silent about the violence on January 6th, which was an attempt to prevent the peaceful exchange of power. Again, these insurrectionists are considered heroes on the right.
Anyone, however, who dares inflict damage on the co-president of the United States’ beloved company will be tried as a domestic terrorist. Not purchasing Teslas is an economic boycott, and Trump has labeled it illegal.
The last time such rhetoric was used to terrorize the populace was in Russia. Shortly after Russia launched its war of genocide against Ukraine, anything that resembled less than total support for Putin’s criminlity was considered treason. A 20-year-old woman replaced the prices on supermarket shelves with statistics showing how many Ukrainians were killed in bombings and other unsightly numbers. Under the new law, she was sentenced to eight years in a Siberian prison. Another man was sentenced to eight years because his daughter made a drawing showing Russian bombs blowing up Ukrainian children on a playground.
Trump has a bro-crush on Putin. When he looks into the mirror in the morning, he asks himself, “What would Vlad do today to make people fear him?” Trump is a coward, and he knows this. He also knows that the world knows he is a coward. This is why he constantly reminds people how powerful and great he is. His endless bluster serves no purpose but to soothe the pangs of his ego — his ego is like an insatiable beast that is never happy and always restless.
By defending the wealthiest man in the world with the threat of putting protestors away for decades solely because they vandalized some Tesla cars, Trump demonstrates to the real billionaire class that without him, they are all weak and needy. He is telling them in a very Putin-esque way, I, too, can use the power of this mighty country to protect you, to enrich you. All you need to do is kiss my ring and endlessly praise me.
Perverting the laws to put away anti-Tesla protestors is just the beginning of the real weaponization of the justice department. When this happens, America becomes no different than Russia, China, Iran, and so many other morally weak and corrupt societies.
