Trump Just Can't Get Over His Hatred for Our Vets
He regards military medals as prizes in boxes of Cracker Jacks.
When Donald Trump was president, he gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh. Rush Limbaugh, in case you have forgotten, was one of the most racist, divisive, and dishonest radio broadcasters to have ever been on the air. He arguably did more to blow up comity in our nation than Fox News and Newt Gingrich combined.
Yesterday, Trump yet again reminded everyone with ears, except MAGidiots who regard his every utterance to be divine, how much Trump disrespects the men and women who serve in the nation’s armed forces.
At a campaign event at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., billed as a discussion about fighting antisemitism, Mr. Trump recounted how he awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Miriam Adelson, the Israeli-American widow of the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson. Ms. Adelson, who attended the event, is among his top donors.
“It’s actually much better because everyone gets the Congressional Medal of Honor, that’s soldiers, they’re either in very bad shape because they’ve been hit so many times by bullets, or they’re dead,” Mr. Trump said, using a common misnomer for the military award. “She gets it, and she’s a healthy, beautiful woman (Civilian Award Is Much Better).”
First, my 7-year-old son appreciates that not “everyone” gets a “Congressional Medal of Honor.” Let’s begin with the medal, referred to as the “Medal of Honor,” not the “Congressional Medal of Honor.” Congress only votes on the medal if the time limit for submitting it has passed. Donald Trump was the president of the United States. How can this information not have stuck to some part of his brain? He is either a complete dumbass or just mentally ill. There is only one Congressional Medal of Honor, the highest medal a soldier can receive. The criteria for obtaining one are as follows:
It is presented by the President of the United States in the name of Congress “only upon members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguish themselves through conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty:
• While engaged in action against an enemy of the United States;
• While engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or
• While serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party (What’s the Difference?).”
Trump, who chose people who are either like Rush or people like Miriam Adelson, a right-wing supporter of Israel and one of the largest donors to Trump’s campaign, can in no way ever be lumped into the same group as past Presidential Medal of Freedom winners or Medal of Honor recipients.
Trump again fell back on his perverse, even morbid obsession that if a soldier gets wounded, killed, or captured during a battle, then he is somehow a “loser,” As explained to the captive audience at yet another ridiculous “emergency press conference” yesterday at his golf club in New Jersey, the soldiers “are all shot up and riddled with bullets or dead” so they all get the Medal of Honor. Ms. Adelson, he reminded us in his lascivious way, is a “beautiful and healthy woman.” It’s as if he is suggesting that because the military recipient of the award may be dead or severely wounded, they are less worthy because they can no longer make contributions to society, which we are supposed to understand as they can no longer worship Trump.
Trump is a civilian and has long been mocked by military people for his draft-dodging ways. “Cadet Burn Spurs” is obviously something that stings him considerably, and so that is why he goes around bad-mouthing military heroes and the fallen. A fallen soldier has given the greatest sacrifice to his country, something Trump would never do, and so that deceased person represents to him a threat. Medal of Honor winners are heroes worthy of praise and honor, all of the things Donald Trump is not worthy of. Medal of Honor winners are selfless, and they prove it through their deeds and not by hours and hours of rambling, endlessly telling us “how great and heroic I am.”
I will never understand how so many MAGidiots, including military people, can forgive him for these comments. Threatened by the accomplishments of real heroes, he lashes out because he can; he lashes out because he is a bully, and the honorable Medal of Honor recipients hold their tongues and prove to us all why they are heroes.
Trump is scum, and his supporters barely better.
JD Vance, the war-time journalist who has been out criticizing Tim Walz despite having served for 24 years in the National Guard, was defending Trump.
“Donald Trump knows nothing about service to anyone or anything but himself,” a spokeswoman for Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign, Sarafina Chitika, said, adding that his comments “should remind all Americans that we owe it to our service members, our country, and our future to make sure Donald Trump is never our nation’s commander in chief again.”
Mr. Vance defended Mr. Trump on Friday, telling reporters at a campaign event in Milwaukee that the former president was a “guy who loves our veterans and who honors our veterans.” Though he acknowledged he had not heard Mr. Trump’s full remarks, Mr. Vance characterized them as compliments for Ms. Adelson that were not “in any way denigrating those who received military honors (Civilian Award Is Much Better).”
Trump’s chart-topper for dissing Americans who served and didn’t use their daddy’s influence to get him out of war was against John McCain.
While campaigning for president in 2016, he disparaged the record of Senator John McCain, a former naval aviator who was held prisoner for more than five years during the Vietnam War.
“He’s not a war hero,” Mr. Trump said then, adding, “I like people who weren’t captured.” Republicans, many then wary of Mr. Trump, immediately rushed to Mr. McCain’s defense (Civilian Award Is Much Better).
There was blowback against his comment, but because he is Trump, nothing happened to him. It doesn’t seem much will happen to him here either, but all we can hope is that one or two more people will decide that enough is enough and choose not to vote for him in November — one vote at a time. Let’s let Trump do the work for us.
He is a sick and disgusting person, and he deserves exactly what he wishes to happen to everyone who does not consider him the second coming.
"... supporter of Israel ..."
You use this pejoratively?
"He is either a complete dumbass or just mentally ill."
Or both.
