Trump Threatens Mass Arrests of Opponents
'Mainstream Republicans say 'Trump is just being Trump.'
And Hitler was just being Hitler. Let history speak for the present and if we are stupid enough, then for the future.
“WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again,” Trump wrote on Saturday on his Truth Social platform. “We cannot let our Country further devolve into a Third World Nation, AND WE WON’T!”
Trump, who began his message with the words “CEASE & DESIST,” went on to threaten a wide range of the kinds of people who would face prosecution and prison time, including campaign donors and those involved in administering elections (Trump Pledges to Jail Opponents).
Donald Trump. Oh, how I long to write those words, knowing he is no longer alive on this Earth. Anyone who thinks my sentiment is mean or wrong can stop reading now. Trump is an evil and sick person. The only thing that prevents him from being a Putin or a Hitler is that he is lazy, and his only true love in life is making sure he shines brighter than everyone and everything around him. At the same time, that obsession with himself drives him to say things like he said yesterday. As we pull closer to the election and the chance that American voters will reject him exists, Trump’s sickness will drive him to become more radical — to attract more whack jobs, nuts, and murderers the way cow paddies draw swarms of ravenous flies.
Republicans across the nation largely ignored Trump’s latest fit of crazy. Many shrugged their shoulders and downplayed it.
On Sunday, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, a Trump campaign surrogate, minimized Trump’s comments in an interview with NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” saying that the former president was “just putting people on notice” that the country must have “free and fair elections (Trump Pledges to Jail Opponents).”
A few braver Republicans went on the record to say that such rhetoric can only lead to violence.
Seth Bluestein, a Republican Philadelphia city commissioner, said that every election official he knows “is focused on doing their job well, which unfortunately now also includes preparing for potential threats and violence (Trump Pledges to Jail Opponents).”
Trump, however, is the puppet master, and so most of the cowards held their tongues. It would be interesting to see how they would react if Kamala Harris or Joe Biden said such things. We pretty much know how they would react. Remember their “peaceful and patriotic” protest on January 6th, 2021?
But a Republican official in a battleground state who spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk candidly about Trump’s comments found the former president’s post more alarming.
“He sounds like he is losing it,” the Republican official said. “Sad, someone should do something, like replace him as a candidate (Trump Pledges to Jail Opponents).”
“He’s losing it.” This is an interesting observation from a Republican who has access to Trump behind the scenes. Each time in the past, when I suggested he was losing it, I was usually just being rhetorical. In videos lately, when Trump is giving softball interviews, he is bizarrely calm and almost whispering as if he has been heavily sedated. Either something is wrong with him and the medication is having such an effect, or his handlers are sneaking something into his cheeseburgers and slurpees that is making him sound like a post-electric shock therapy patient.
And Jeff Greenburg, a former director of elections in Mercer County, Pa., said on Sunday that the “continued demonization of election officials is disappointing, disheartening, irresponsible and infuriating.”
“Words matter, and this does nothing but potentially put those dedicated public servants in harm’s way. It has to stop,” he said (Trump Pledges to Jail Opponents).”
This sane washing has to stop, corporate media.
