Trump's Real Greenland Strategy
Many of us are now talking about it. A part of a country most Americans — if they know it at all — know only as the land of Lego (Denmark) filters through the air in breakfast nooks across our anxious land: “Greenland,” they whisper, “he says we need to make it America to keep the country safe.” Heads nod, affirming the orange dunce’s latest proclamation that came to him while passing his bowels.
Formerly bright Americans, having legally donated their frontal lobes to science, stare mindlessly at heaping plates of fat and sugar-loaded food, and sweet teas sit at the ready, perfectly sugared and stirred.
“Yep, God bless him. ‘Merica’s gonna git great again.”
Press pause.
What about Russia’s war of genocide against Ukraine? He promised that if elected, that tragedy would end the next day because Putin is so afraid of him. What about ending inflation — it’s already down to 1.2 percent. What about the illegal immigration crisis? Well, that has been brought under control in many ways, with crossings at their lowest since when Trump was last president.
The behind-the-scenes president-elect, Musk, has let it be known that he is still for some immigration (high-skilled workers), which has created a problem for the titular president-elect. MAGA cultists are 100 percent against letting any immigrants into the country, but Trump understands he needs to keep a man with 200 million Twitter followers happy, so he has come out in support of the holders of H-1B visas — this has not been well-received by MAGA.
The truth behind Trump’s bizarre lectures about how tariffs are the ultimate curealls for what ails working-class Americans is finally sinking in with Americans who tend to be less-MAGA and more just so misinformed so they voted for him— despite all that we know about Trump’s first four years. The core MAGA base cares about none of Trump’s lies and is already insisting they knew that tariffs would raise prices. I saw one MAGidiot explaining to other MAGidiots that a 10 percent tariff will only raise something that now costs $10 by one dollar.
“What, am I so poor I can’t afford to pay one buck more for something I need?” The MAGA dummy said, looking into the camera. “If it costs me one dollar to punish China, then heck, I’m ready to pay two dollars!”
It is now being reported that many MAGA and others who voted for Trump are stocking up on items they fear will be hit by the tariffs. There has been a post-holiday surge in things like TVs and other such appliances. Americans have finally begun to understand who pays for tariffs. With the “pre-Trump sale” underway, the next thing we can expect is an increase in inflation.
Trump, though, for as dumb as he is about most stuff in life, understands better than most how to play on the need to feel aggrieved most people have. Nothing unites people faster than feeling like someone did them wrong and that someone else will help them get revenge. While the core Trump supporters, roughly 35 percent of the nation, will never be scared away, Trump still must work for the 14 to 15 percent he needs to get elected. Having been elected for the last time, if this fickle constituency of voters bails on him before his inauguration, it will be much harder for him to keep the Republican Congress aligned while he puts the final nails in the coffin of our democracy — by Constitutional means.
Greenland. Donald Trump knows there is no way in hell we can going to forcibly take land from one of our allies. No matter how much he dislikes our allies because they aren’t led by bullies and cowards like Russia, China, and Iran, Trump is practical enough to know that by going to war with an ally, he will burn through that 14 percent of the electorate he needs to stay on board while Project 25 is being implemented. Nonetheless, with all of the talk about taking over Greenland and seizing the Panama Canal, not many MAGidiots are focusing on how they were duped about who really pays for tariffs; no one is paying attention to the untidy reality of daily missile attacks on Ukrainian cities.
All of Trump’s lies, which were “baked-into“— more on this term expression in a separate article — his promises for making America feared, respected, and great again are now just assuming their numerical places in the long list of Trump failings. In the same way that he did nothing in his first term except cut taxes for the super-rich, he has already broken over a dozen campaign promises months before.
We should all be used to it by now. No one should be paying attention to his bullshitting about Greenland and instead keep up the attention on the above-mentioned broken promises. The mainstream media, however, will careen from Trumpian lies to excessive comments, not because they are doing us a service or protecting democracy.
Because every lie he lets fly earns them boatloads of money in advertising. Shame on them. Ignore the Greenland and Panama Canal hoaxes. Let’s not play this game with them. The more we go down the rabbit hole, the easier they will be to dismantle our democracy.
