Was half of America in a Coma Between 2017 and January 20, 2021?
Why are so many Trump supporters so surprised that it's as bad as it is? It's not like he attended a school on how to be a better president between 2021 and 2025!
If you’ve never seen the classic Woody Allen movie Sleeper, then I suggest you give it a viewing. The movie keeps coming to my mind as I watch Trump supporters on YouTube making teary-eyed confessional videos about how they are losing their farms, Latina wives, jobs, and mental health counseling thanks to the chaos of Trump’s DOGE.
It really makes me think that a lot of our fellow citizens went off for a dental appointment in late 2016 only to wake up around the time of the Trump-Biden debate. Shocked at the clearly exhausted and aged Joe Biden compared to the energetic and brash Trump, many cast their votes for Trump, expecting that Trump 2.0 would be a glorious renewal of American might and ingenuity.
Then, I read this opening paragraph in a Washington Post article this morning, and my head did a Linda-Blair Excorcist 180-degree spin (I still cannot watch this movie! It scares the bejesus out of me!).
Families with children enrolled in scores of child-care centers in federal buildings hoped that the Trump administration’s return-to-office mandate for federal employees would give a boost to these facilities and lead more to open after COVID-era closure (Scores of Childcare Centers).
Honestly, I want to know what substance these people are abusing. Or, as I wrote above, maybe they had an overdose of laughing gas at the dentist and were asleep for the last five years. What could anything Trump or the Republicans have done for the past 40 years to make anyone in their right mind think that they would be more focused on making daycare accessible for working families for accessible? Everything they have done since 1980 has been designed to eliminate any form of government assistance for Americans in need and to privatize as much as possible — which always results in services that are more expensive and less accessible.
What has happened since Trump took over on January 20th? What do you think? Ready yourself for America’s most popular rollercoaster since DOGE kicked off its operations — it’s called the “Instead” rollercoaster.
Instead, the administration has eliminated an office responsible for overseeing that network and stopped providing accreditation to the centers, leaving them vulnerable to a drop in quality, higher costs or outright closure, former employees said.
The General Services Administration, the federal government’s real estate arm, abolished its child-care office this month, firing all but one of the employees who didn’t take the U.S. DOGE Service’s deferred resignation offer, according to former employees, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation. The sole remaining employee now works in a different division, the former employees said (Scores of Childcare Centers).
Obviously, people are abusing a lot of substances in our “greatest country on Earth” — more so than in other countries, it turns out. Obviously, again, no one fell into a five-year-long coma because of a careless dentist. On a recent David Pakman report on YouTube, he reported on an interview of college kids at Spring Break in Florida and asked them. Here are the questions and the answers of college kids.
Q: Who did the U.S. fight the Revolutionary War against?
A: Spain, in the 1200s (the young woman who answered is an elementary education major)
Q: How many Senators are there?
A: Six or seven.
Q: What is the 2nd Amendment?
A: The right to vote
Q: What shape is the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C.?
A: Square.
Q: How many amendments in the Bill of Rights?
A: 17.
Q: Who won the Civil War?
A: It was between the East and West. The civilians won.
Maybe it’s the rest of us who are in a coma. Because none of this can be real. But this is the ignorant America that Republicans have been vying for since the 1960s. The dumber, the more racist, the most fearful, the easier they are to govern. The easier it is to create a government that caters solely to the super-rich.
In a democracy the people get the government they deserve.
Not the government they thought they were getting.
Not the government they wanted, or that they were persuaded to want.
The government they deserve.
